Sternfunde 220Sa: Ponton Florida! Mercedes W180II zeigt ein Auto, das aus dem Süden von Amerika nach Deutschland kam. Seitdem steht der Wagen in einer trockenen, gut durchlüfteten Halle Unterfranken. Der Menge von Projekten und Lebensumständen seines Besitzers geschuldet tut der schöne Ponton das in ziemlich genau dem Zustand, in dem er damals das Schiff verließ. Das war vor Jahren.
Ponton mit Klima
Heute präsentiert sich der 220Sa in seiner hinreißend schönen Farbkombination freundlich, klassisch, hell. Der elfenbeinfarbene Lack steht der „großen“ Ponton Limousine wirklich ausgezeichnet. Genau wie das zum größten Teil fein patinierte Leder. Das allerdings im oberen Bereich der Rücksitzbank vom UV Licht zerstört wurde. Dafür ist das Interieur des Wagens komplett und in generell gutem Zustand. Das üppige schöne Echtholz, das gut erhaltene Lenkrad, der Duft im Innenraum, toll. Das Radio wurde für den US Markt produziert, die Tachometer Skala ist original, also noch in Meilen ausgeführt. Klimaanlage, was für ein Luxus in einem Mercedes dieser Bauperiode. Lackieren oder Spot Repair?
Diese wunderbar wohlgeformten Ponton Mercedes sind schlimme Herzensbrecher. Deshalb macht man keinen Fehler, wenn man zuerst von unten nachsieht, wie viel Arbeit wartet. Bei diesem Exemplar ist der Unterboden gut. Darüber werden wir noch berichten. Auch der Lack ist gar nicht schlecht, aber es gibt an Tür-Unterkanten und Hauben beginnenden Rost. Die Frage lautet: Komplett Lackieren oder Spot Repair. Zu entscheiden ist das nicht sooo schwer. Weil beides funktionieren würde. Hängt ganz vom Geschmack ab. Und/oder vom Geldbeutel. Sternfunde 220Sa: Ponton Florida! Mercedes W180II shows a car that came to Germany from the south of America. Since then the car has been standing in a dry, well-ventilated hall in Lower Franconia. Ponton with air condition
Today the 220Sa presents itself in an adorably beautiful color combination. Friendly, classic, bright. The ivory-colored paint really suits the „big“ Ponton limousine. Just like the mostly finely patinated leather. That, however, was destroyed by UV light in the upper area of the rear seat. The interior of the car is complete and in generally good condition. Beautiful real wood, well-preserved steering wheel, unbelievable good smell in the interior, all of that is rare and great. The radio was produced only for the US market, the speedometer scale is original, so still in miles. Air conditioning, what a fantastic rare luxury in a Mercedes of this construction period. The very stylish, chrome-plated Frigiking control unit under the radio is a very special piece of automotive history. It promises a cool head on hot summer days.
Painting or spot repair?
All these wonderfully shaped Ponton Mercedes are terribly bad heartbreakers. So you don’t make a mistake if you first look under the car, to see how much work is waiting. And how much money it need`s. The underbody of this Mercedes W180II is very good. We will report on this later. Paint is not bad either, but there is rust beginning at the bottom edge of the doors, the engine hood and the trunk hood. The question is: complete painting or spot repair. It’s not that difficult to decide. Because both would work. Depends entirely on the taste. And / or from your wallet. We cannot say anything about the technical condition today.
