1988 Mercedes W124 200 Diesel aus erster Hand? Gut 1/4 Jahrhundert ist es her, dass ich zum letzten Mal einen W124 in diesem Zustand sah. Original, neuwertig, vollkommen unberührt von Parksünden, Zubehörkotflügeln und den vielen Halbwahrheiten, die eine lange Mercedeskarriere oftmals mit sich bringt. Was für eine fantastische Probefahrt. Jungfräuliche Raumlenkerachse und kaum benutztes Lenkgetriebe treffen sich auf eine Landpartie, die keine Wünsche offen lässt. Außer vielleicht dem nach etwas mehr Leistung. Weil`s ein 200er Diesel ist. Doch stört das wirklich? Nee, heute nicht.

Heute feiern wir den Tag, an dem Mercedes den W124 auf die Straße brachte. Einen Wagen, der in damals vielerlei Hinsicht einem Quantensprung gleichkam. Und wir feiern die Freude über speziell diesen W124 200 Diesel. Der nach Erlangung des H- Kennzeichen auch gleich zur 30.000 Kilometer Inspektion bei Mercedes in Würzburg vorgestellt wurde. Damit das Scheckheft lückenlos bleibt. Inzwischen hat der Besitzer entschieden, ihn zu verkaufen. Vorher haben wir eine ganze Menge über die DB172 anthrazitfarbene Limousine zu berichten.

Wann war dieser fantastische W124 letztmalig zugelassen? Wie konnte er bis heute in diesem Zustand überdauern? Was sagt der Gutachter über seinen Gesamtzustand? Original, as new, completely untouched by parking sins, accessory fenders and the many half-truths that a long Mercedes career often brings with it. What a fantastic test drive. A virgin multi-link axle and a hardly used steering gear meet on a land ride that leaves nothing to be desired. Except maybe for a little more power. Because it’s a 200 diesel. But does that really bother you? No, not today.

Today we celebrate the day Mercedes put the W124 on the road. A car that at the time represented a quantum leap in many ways. And we celebrate the joy of this particular W124 200 Diesel. Which was presented to Mercedes in Würzburg for the 30,000 kilometer inspection after obtaining the historical license plate. So that the checkbook remains complete. The owner has now decided to sell the Mercedes. But before this will happen, we have a lot to report about this very rare DB172 anthracite colored sedan.
